Reagan inspired me to think of
politics as a way to serve humanity, just as I do now as a
physician. For those of you who don’t know me, I work as a
cardiologist at the Mayo Clinic and have spent 16 years in the
medical profession. Many people have trusted me with their
lives over this time. I have been and remain humbled by this
type of trust. I also realize that there are limits as to what
one person can do on a one to one basis as a physician.
Sometimes, the issues and challenges we face require larger
action. Most members of our state legislature are lawyers,
business people or educators. I am told that only 5 physicians
have served in the past 100 years in the Minnesota legislature.
